POSITION:                 Resource Room Teacher - Special Education                               

LOCATION:                 Woodside Elementary School

HOURS/STATUS:        School Year 2024 – 2025

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Selection, administration, and interpretation of formal and informal assessment techniques, tests, instruments, protocols, and observations in order to screen, evaluate, and assess a student’s educational achievement and aptitude. Measurements shall include multiple domains, including language, social, cognitive, physical, and behavioral.
  • Converting assessment information into education plans, stated in measurable goals and objectives. Ability to develop recommendations for services that are appropriate and least restrictive. Monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness of individual plans in meeting goals and objectives, and recommending program changes as necessary.
  • Direct teaching of reading, writing, spelling, and math, utilizing a variety of programs and techniques, and competence in teaching across the curriculum utilizing multi-sensory approaches.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary in order to interact effectively with parents, students, teachers, and other service providers relative to the evaluation of and/or data concerning the student’s academic, social, cognitive, behavioral, and/or physical needs, and instructional formats to address those needs.
  • Collaborating with outside agency personnel regarding student and/or family issues. Ability to select appropriate instructional materials for enhancing the programs of students with disabilities.
  • Analysis and application of behavior principles in classroom and school programs, provide assistance to others in developing instructional settings that utilize various behavior, psychoeducational, and instructional theories.
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes and regulations governing the conduct of special education programs, with the ability to organize, maintain, and systematize student records, and protect the confidentiality of such records. Experience with Special Education case management is essential.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • Maine certification as Special Education Teacher (282)
  • Experience and demonstrated success in designing individualized programs and providing special education services at the elementary school level
  • Knowledge in the unique academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs of elementary students
  • Proven ability to function as a contributing member of a team
