Position Title: Extended School Year (ESY) Ed-Tech

Location: Mitchell, Shapleigh, and/or Traip
Reports To: Director of Special Services, Building Principal

Position Start Date: July 8, 2024 - August 8, 2024

Required Certification: Maine Ed-Tech Certification

The Kittery School District is currently seeking qualified educational technicians to support our Extended School Year (ESY) special education summer program taking place Monday-Thursday July 8, 2024 to August 8, 2024. Multiple openings are available within each of our three schools: Mitchell School, Shapleigh School, and Traip Academy. 

 

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of all student, family and employee related information
  • Meet regularly with program supervisor to share information and discuss student progress
  • Review and reinforce learning previously introduced by the teachers
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom materials and class management functions
  • Exhibit positive language and behavior skills as a model for children and families
  • Provide input to completion and maintenance of individual observational child assessment
  • Perform any other appropriate duties the Special Education Director/Supervisor deems necessary 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Obtain and maintain authorization as an Ed Tech per Chapter 115 of the Maine Department of Education
  • Document at least two years of postsecondary education or a combination equivalent to 60 hours of approved study in an educationally related field
  • Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Working knowledge of child development, disabilities, family systems and special education methods
  • Exhibit a positive professionalism with supervisors, co-workers, students, parents and community
  • Provide individual and group services in a variety of settings and models
  • Establish an effective rapport/relationship with children and parents
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an early childhood team
  • Effectively communicate - orally and in writing
  • Maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and ability to take initiative

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • There may be physical demands based on physical, emotional and cognitive needs of particular children

You must be able to pass a background test through the State of Maine Education Department.
