Title: IEP Coordinator - Lyman Elementary School/Alfred Elementary School

 

Qualifications:

  1. Maine Department of Education certification in Special Education (#282, #035 or #030)
  2. Teaching experience and educational background in the areas of math, literacy and the social-emotional needs of children.

 

Reports To: Director of Special Education, Assistant Director of Special Education & Building Principal

 

Job Goal: To assist the Director, Assistant Director & Building Principal in the provision of appropriate educational programming services for students.

 

Responsibilities:

IEP Coordinator

  • Case manage all 504 in the assigned buildings, and consult with teachers on providing accommodations to 504 students
  • Directs and facilitates the school pre-referral team to provide information and expertise on Response to Learning (RTL)
  • Act as the building’s liaison between the school, special education department and Response to Learning (RTL)
  • Provides standardized testing and observations in the learning environment to help special education teachers in the referral and reevaluation process, as well as the process of getting input from the team and consent for evaluations from the parent(s).
  • Work with case manager to prepare for and participate in all Individual Educational Programs (IEP’s) meetings, and serve as acting administrator when necessary

 

Instructional Coach for Special Services

  • Assist teachers in examining teaching practices in order to effectively meet the needs of all students and to prevent unnecessary referral to special education.
  • Provide instructional coaching to teachers on best practices for functional and academic skills
  • Consults with regular education and special education teachers around scientifically based researched instructional strategies and methodologies.
  • Provides instructional guidance and teacher leadership within the school setting
  • Provide professional development opportunities to staff
  • Participates in committee work deemed necessary by the Directors and Principals
  • Consults and collaborates with staff to monitor progress and utilize data of students in the prereferral process.
  • Performs other duties/tasks as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.

 

WORK YEAR: Teacher contract. Salary and benefits to be established by the School Committee and aligned with the Teacher’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the RSU 57 School Board Policy on Evaluation – Standards for Evaluation of Professional Staff.
