Medomak Valley High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Alternative Education Teacher for English and social studies  for grades grades 9-12. This position is responsible for providing engaging and supportive instruction to students who are struggling in traditional high school settings or are at risk of dropping out. The Alternative Education teacher collaborates with the school counselors, administrators, and parents to address students' individual academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance needs. The program aims to re-engage students and provide them with the skills and support necessary to succeed academically, emotionally, and socially, and ultimately earn a high school diploma.  The teacher in this position supports students with a variety of educational pathways:  credit recovery using our online Edmentum Platform, traditional teaching of the English / Social Studies curriculum specifically crafted to engage students as neederd, directed study halls for students taking regular classes who may need additional support.   

The successful candidate will 

• Provide standards-referenced instruction in a smaller classroom setting using a variety of methods focusing on core academic subjects to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
• Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, builds self-esteem, and promotes social-emotional learning.
• Monitor student progress, evaluate student learning, and provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
• Provide a small group setting for learning which supports the school's code of conduct and behavior standards while also respecting the need to re-engage students who may be at risk for dropping out.
