The Bowdoin College Children’s Center Training Institute for Future Early Childhood Lead Teachers is offering four qualified professionals an opportunity to join the staff at the center to learn and become a Co-Lead Educator for the birth – three-year age group in this two-year training program. Qualified candidates will have either an associate degree and at least 5 years of experience, a bachelors in early childhood and a practicum, or a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one-year experience in childcare.
The scope of training while learning the practice with mentor in the program will include:
Year one -
- Attachment-based care,
- Discipline informed by emotional development,
- Nature-based education, and
- Supporting play
Year two -
- Writing conference reports,
- Participating in child studies,
- Creating portfolio entries for each child,
- Developing weekly documentation panels,
- Curating curriculum for the program, and
- Designing and maintaining a daily schedule for the program.
Compensation:
- $41,600 – $49,9200/annually (This position is available for overtime pay)
- $200/month supplement from DHHS
- $500 sign-on bonus (½ paid at first check, and ½ paid after 90 days of eligibility requirements are met).

Education/Experience/Skills Required:
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and at least 5 years of childcare experience
OR
- Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
OR
- Bachelors degree and at least 1 year of childcare experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and a genuine commitment to the ?eld of early childhood education.
- Flexibility and re?ective teaching skills focusing on the whole child in our responsive, nurturing programs is necessary for this position.
- Computer pro?ciency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and internet research for classroom planning
- A valid Driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy
- Current CPR/First Aid certi?cation (or obtain certi?cation within 1 month of employment)
- Upon hire, new employees must sign a Child Abuse Policy statement and complete the College’s OSHA bloodborne pathogen training and show proof of Hepatitis B vaccination (or submit a written declination statement).

Standard Work Days and Hours:
- 40 hours/week between hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:45 pm, Monday – Friday
- This position is a full-time year round position (1.00 FTE)
