Camp Alsing is an overnight summer camp in Maine for young people, ages 10-22, with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, and related needs. We help campers expand their boundaries in a traditional camp environment.

Position Summary

Camp Alsing’s Speech Language Pathologist is a critical member of our leadership team. This position is responsible for integrating a clinical program at Camp Alsing.  The clinical program is subtle but influential in infusing our daily camp activities with skills and strategies that build social cognition skills, executive function capabilities, and anxiety management strategies in our camp community. The SLP works closely with the camp director, social workers, assistant director, and program director to support campers and staff throughout the experience of living away from home, meeting new people, and trying new things in a group setting.

Required: SLP with a depth of experience working with children with a variety of needs, including Autism, ADHD, anxiety, and other learning and processing differences. Familiarity and previous experience utilizing Social Thinking and/or Thinking360™ preferred.  This person is passionate about working with this population of people.  This individual is an energetic, flexible problem-solver accustomed to working in a fast-paced, yet supportive environment of innovation dedicated to providing the best program possible for the camper population. 

 Essential functions:

  • Utilize current clinical curriculum at camp, as well as incorporate new strategies and skills in curriculum, to build social connections and confidence in each camper.
  • Supervise SLP graduate students in their role as camp coaches
  • Oversee and contribute to weekly and final camper reports
  • Conduct regular group meetings and 1:1 sessions as-needed with campers
  • Act as “on call” throughout the day for any issues that arise with campers or staff
  • Proactively identify potential issues or conflicts that arise with campers or staff
  • Work with campers and staff to proactively incorporate skills and strategies to alleviate anxiety and contribute to positive camp experience.
  • “On call” overnight as needed (1 or 2 evenings/week, alternating with other staff, on call in all/any emergencies).
  • Additional duties as needed.

Dates and other information: June 20 – July 30, 2023. Some online training required prior to camp.  Food & lodging provided.  PTO. Detailed training provided.
