Located in the beautiful mid-coast Maine town of Newcastle, about an hour north of Portland, Lincoln Academy seeks a full time Special Education Teacher to begin working in mid-August 2019. Founded in 1801, LA is an independent, 9-12 Town Academy of approximately 550 students. Deeply rooted in the communities of central Lincoln County, today LA serves as the “high school of record” for eight of these communities and draws from 15 other area towns as well, accepting all students from those towns. In addition to our local, publicly funded students, the school enrolls up to 90 international and more distant boarding students. This results in an exciting mix of young people, and the school is committed to providing an outstanding education for each of them.
Special Education Certification is required.
The Life Skills program continues to grow requiring hiring a second teacher to work cooperatively with the current Life Skills teacher.
The successful candidate will provide direct instruction to the students in the class according to their Individualized Educational Program. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with Life Skills staff to plan and implement appropriate instruction and activities for the students.
Applicants for this position should have experience related to the instruction of students of similar age and in the subject area(s) to be assigned; demonstrated positive, professional relationships with students and colleagues; and evidence of a strong desire to work with school-age youth.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans
- Documenting progress via daily data collection
- Develop schedules and lesson plans
- Implement a variety of instructional approaches
- Planning and leading large and small group activities
- Creating visual supports
- Supervising and training educational technicians
- Develop transition plans with student
- Demonstrate a variety of computer literacy skills
- Act as Advisor to assigned group
