Job Title:   Middle School Instructional Coach Teacher Leader
Date Available:  August 2020
Qualifications: Maine State General Elementary 020 (K-8).  Leadership experience preferred.

Description:  Scarborough Middle School seeks a dynamic teacher leader with strong communication skills who thrives in a collaborative atmosphere to join our team. This teacher will work in a student-centered learning environment and provide content area curriculum coordination and instructional quality in collaboration with staff and building and district leadership.

Responsibilities may include:    

  • Coordination and articulation of curriculum

  • Staying current in the field/best practices

  • Providing leadership across all content areas

  • Collaborating with other instructional coaches in planning and curriculum improvements

  • Data management, analysis, and action planning

  • Articulation of benchmarks/expected outcomes for student performance

  • Identifying/developing data sources

  • Providing professional development and classroom support

  • Providing consultations

  • Modeling lessons/instructional strategies

  • Providing student centered coaching cycles

  • Observing and developing curriculum coaching capacity in others

Examples of Work:

  • Consult, model lessons, observe, mentor, and coach teachers

  • Provide leadership in the content areas, staying current in the field and in best practices (i.e. curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development)

  • Organize and assist in coordination of the school’s comprehensive assessment system

  • Support classrooms and classroom teachers as needed

  • Analyze data to develop and implement plans of action for curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development

  • Collaborate with other Instructional Coaches in curriculum and cross curriculum development and implementation 

Requirements of Work:

  • Knowledge of content areas, and best practices in instruction, assessment, and professional development

  • Collaborate with staff and with building and district leadership

  • Knowledge of leadership roles and responsibilities

  • Knowledge of teacher development and coaching practices

  • Ability to coordinate and lead meetings and workshops

  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem solving, and organization skills 

  • Actively demonstrates continuous improvement, willingness to learn


Participate in a variety of ongoing professional development including coursework, in the areas of curriculum, instruction, data analysis, adult learning, assessment, content area knowledge, and teacher effectiveness.
