Job Description

 

The Bucksport Area Child Care Center is actively looking for experienced Early Childhood Education professionals to join our dynamic team.

Qualifications:

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A current CDA certificate or continued Maine Roads to Quality training towards earning a CDA certificate.
  • Clean background checks through 1.) State of Maine Bureau of Investigation, Maine DHHS, and 2.) Child Protective Services, Maine DHHS.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Willing to participate in on-going in-service activities to strengthen work performance
  • Must be 18 years of age

Reports to: Lead Teacher/Center Director

Job Goal: To assist in facilitating the educational process for enrolled students by supporting and enhancing the educational services offered by BACCC teaching staff and to build a foundation for academic skills for the students.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to facilitate age appropriate reading writing, math, reasoning and understanding of policies and procedures for specific age group
  2. Physical ability to perform all necessary duties, including reaching, lifting, eye-hand coordination, sitting/playing with children.

High Level Overview:

Experience with children ages 18 months to 5 years old is necessary for daycare center and 5-12 years of age for school age program, but a degree is preferred. Must love working with children, have an open mind, positive attitude and willingness to get on the floor and play with our kids. Assistant Teacher Position(s) will be an integral part of our child care team and will assist in planning and implementing daily schedules and curriculum. Part time-with potential to get up to 40hrs a week picking up hours between the center, and our after school program if desired.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Supplement and reinforces materials taught in the classroom; instructs designated student for the purpose of enhancing their academic capabilities and safety.
  2. Serve under general supervision of Lead Teacher when performing student-related duties
  3. Meets with Lead Teacher on a daily basis to share information and discuss student progress/observations
  4. Follows the design of the classroom schedule by carrying out lesson plans and assignments provided by Lead Teacher
  5. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  6. Performs clerical services required by Lead Teacher including communicating with parents
  7. Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with administration, employees, student and parents/guardians
  8. Exhibits a professional attitude; positive language and behavior skills with staff, students and parents/guardians
  9. Notifies supervising staff of unusual behaviors, health, or physical conditions warranting attention
  10. Must be flexible in day to day activities and float between rooms if necessary to ensure proper ratios
  11. Assist in maintaining a clean work environment for children and staff
  12. Responsible for completing closure checklist for Toddler room and Pre-K room in addition to building checklist

Position Hours: 

Assistant Full Time 8:00-5:00

Evaluations:

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Center Director with input from the supervising Lead teacher.

Compensation

$14.25-15.50 based on experience and qualifications

Benefits:

Staff will receive 9 paid holidays off and 4 in service days per year.

Additionally, after 90 days of employment staff will be offered benefits through AFLAC.
