INTERIM ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OPENING

The Kittery School District is seeking an Interim Assistant Principal (one-year only) for the 2019-20 school year at Shapleigh School, which serves approximately 415 students in grades 4 – 8. This opening is for a certified building administrator (Maine Department of Education certification 050 or 055) to serve as an educational leader to assist the Principal with the implementation of Proficiency-Based Learning, the Educator Effectiveness model, and the general day-to-day operations of the school. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required for this position since the successful candidate will work with administrators, teachers, support staff, families, and students to create a welcoming and safe learning environment for all. Successful teaching experience within the grade span of 4 – 8 is preferred. The individual will serve on the building leadership team, and will work with staff on meeting building / District-level commitments. The Assistant Principal, in conjunction with the Principal, will be responsible for the daily oversight and organization of the building, including assuming primary responsibility in the absence of the Principal. The successful candidate may apply for the permanent assistant principal position for the 2020-21 school year which will be posted winter, 2020.
Shapleigh School is one of three schools in the Kittery School District. The District is committed to the full implementation of a proficiency-based learning model of teaching, learning, and assessing. The school currently has a professional teaching staff of 46 teachers and support staff of 22. In addition to one full-time principal, Shapleigh School has one full-time assistant principal, two full-time school counselors, and one full-time school nurse.
