George Stevens Academy is seeking a Science Department Chair beginning with the 2019-2020 school year to teach 9-12 science and lead a department of 4-5 teachers. As the result of multiple retirements, this is a moment of transition and opportunity for the department, and GSA is looking for an experienced teacher with a vision for the future of science education to lead the department. There is a lot of flexibility in the specific teaching areas of the new department chair, with earth science, biology, and physics being especially promising.
George Stevens Academy is an independent town academy in coastal Maine. It serves as the public education for a wide range of local day students and also educates a boarding population of mostly international students. The science curriculum prepares students for science programs at highly-selective colleges, includes sciences courses aimed at preparing other students for local fisheries and health-care employment, and is increasingly geared toward authentic scientific research.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resumé, and letters of reference to Ms. Gail Strehan, Executive Assistant, George Stevens Academy, 23 Union Street, Blue Hill 04614 or by email to email@example.com.
