Wellness/Physical Education Teacher

For academic year 2024-2025, Lee Academy is seeking a Wellness/Physical Education teacher to serve grades 9-13 (Lee Academy has a post-graduate program whose students enroll in the day-school courses.) 

Lee Academy, founded in 1845, is a private New England Town Academy with 100+ local and regional students, and 30-40 boarding students from the US and around the world.  

 Job Description:

• Teaching, and assessing well-developed and engaging units and lessons with clear learning targets in Personal Fitness, Team Sports Skills and Strategies, Outdoor Education, and Healthy Adventures.  Other such courses which address the interests and aptitudes of the successful candidate will also be considered for inclusion in the curriculum.
• Collaborating with a dedicated, collegial, quality faculty to pursue and support active teaching and learning,
• Expectation to serve as coach or assistant for an athletic team and/or school club or organization,
• Communicating with parents and community to support student learning in a relationship-based, supportive school setting,
• Managing student achievement data and delivering lessons and assessments using technology

 Requirements:

• Experience successfully teaching Wellness, Physical Education or related courses and a current State of Maine certification is preferred but not required; willingness to obtain certification in a timely manner is expected,
• Enthusiasm for working with high school students from various cultures, in both indoor and outdoor environments is preferred,
• Knowledge of the processes and content of any of the following is helpful, but not required: Maine Learning Results, Habits of Mind, and Understanding By Design
