Job Highlights

DISES is a small, rural elementary school serving approximately 250 students from preschool through eighth grade. Located in Deer Isle, Maine, this is a beautiful coastal community, just east of Penobscot Bay along the Eggemoggin Reach. In our work and in our personal lives, we are fortunate to take advantage of the picturesque beaches, trails and historical landmarks on the island.

 

We prioritize social and emotional development of students by fostering positive relationship building and are working to create a school culture that balances empathy and accountability. The classroom experience is designed to inspire engagement, ensure growth and promote social and academic learning. We have extensive nature trails, an active garden/greenhouse program, a vibrant after school program, and a state of the art performing arts center. Our building is beautiful and warm with hallways full of art from local artists. 

 

We are looking for three (3) classroom teachers, one each for grades 1, 3, and 4, to join a dynamic team and make a positive impact on the lives of students with diverse learning needs. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Create lesson plans and develop activities that support core academic skill development  for an average of 8-12 students, with a maximum amount of 15; in a small group setting.
  • Identify and effectively address issues pertaining to students, their learning and their development.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Help students one-on-one when extra assistance is needed.
  • Collaborate with other educators, parents, and support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. 
  • Participate as an active member of teaching teams to support curriculum development and integration.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records. 
  • Update daily attendance.



Requirements 

-Bachelor or Master’s degree in education

-Proven experience working with students with diverse learning needs.

-Strong communication and collaboration skills.

-Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
