Baxter Academy for Technology and Science invites applications for a full-time Humanities teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. We are situated in Portland, ME, and draw from over 60 communities to serve 400 students, as one of Maine’s ten public charter schools designed to bring innovation to the education sector in Maine.

We seek to hire and retain diverse faculty and staff who understand and embrace our school’s STEM mission and vision and are passionate and proficient in their fields. Successful candidates show high expectations for all students, work toward authentic performance assessment, conduct real research with students. Strong candidates also have enthusiasm for professional collaboration, instructional innovation and leadership. We aim to hire a humanities educator with past teaching experience in English, Social Studies, and Digital Storytelling. Proficiency with digital media and associated platforms is preferred. Baxter Academy develops strong communicators who are proficient not only in writing and presentation but in using technology and data visualization to convey important stories and information through filmmaking, photography, radio documentary, podcasting. Educators at Baxter serve students who are STEM researchers, STEM makers, STEM community stewards, and STEM data visualizers. Educators coach student-initiated year-long STEM projects. The school expects faculty and staff to keep current with professional development activities appropriate to their fields, as well as to participate in school’s in-service days and staff and faculty retreats.
