QUALIFICATIONS:
-Must hold a valid and appropriate Maine drivers license and show evidence of a successful, safe driving record.
-Must be able to follow written and oral instructions and possess good communication skills.
-Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, administrators, students and parents.
-Must have a work history demonstrating dependability and reliability.
-Must pass a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screening and be subject to random screenings.
-Maine Criminal History Record Check and fingerprinting requirements
-Hold a high school diploma, or equivalent.
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
JOB GOAL: To assist in providing safe transportation of special needs students to and from designated locations. Able to obtain or have a class C license to assist in van driving when needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Assist driver and students in operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assisting disabled students.
-Maintains good student conduct on the bus. Supervises students while be transported.
-Secures special equipment that may accompany the student.
-Is alert to any conditions in the loading and unloading area which present a danger to students. Participation in appropriate training may be required.
-Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents, and employees.
-Treats every student with dignity and with the expectation that every child can learn.
-Monitors and supervises students who are being transported.
-Maintains a quiet and respectful atmosphere.
-Assist students as necessary.
-Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, discussing each student only with other adults directly involved in that child's educational program.
-Maintains professional collegiality with other staff members. Share in general routine responsibilities as assigned by the Transportation Director.
Terms of Employment: This is a temporary position based upon student needs.
RSU 3 is located in rural Waldo County and includes the towns of Brooks, Freedom, Jackson, Knox, Liberty, Monroe, Montville, Thorndike, Troy, Unity, and Waldo.
