Head of Custodial/Maintenance Services
Job Goal: The Head of Custodial/Maintenance Services shall be responsible for performing and supervising the operation cleaning and maintenance of CSD school buildings and grounds ensuring that all school property is maintained to the highest degree possible.
Qualifications: Experience with institutional cleaning and maintenance; familiarity with safety procedures and regulations; ability to supervise and evaluate custodial staff; a desire to work cooperatively with professional and support staff; budgeting and record keeping skills. A combination of the following skills is also desirable: rough and finish carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, oil burner, hot water boiler, water system and general HVAC operation and maintenance.
Reports To: Building Principals and Superintendent
Job Responsibilities:
- Assume primary responsibility for the cleanliness and safety of all school buildings and grounds;
- Perform cleaning tasks at any time during the workday when repair or maintenance projects are not scheduled or needed;
- Order approved supplies for the custodians in order for maintenance and cleaning to progress in an efficient manner;
- Inspect school buildings and grounds on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance;
- Establish priorities and perform/assign work on all repair projects;
- By the end of the first year of employment and then annually update a long term plan of building and grounds maintenance improvements;
- Participate in the hiring of custodians and assist the Principals in their supervision and evaluation;
- Meet with principals a minimum of once each week to gain their input into any problems they are encountering with the physical aspects of their building and grounds;
- Set up and coordinate the custodians’ schedules so that the available personnel achieve optimum efficiency;
- Verify custodians’ time sheets;
- Supervise and evaluate personnel employed for the summer cleaning and maintenance projects;
- Service cleaning and grounds equipment on a regular schedule;
- Work with the Principals and Superintendent to prepare the annual building operation and maintenance budget;
- Provide weekly, a brief, written report to each principal on projects accomplished and work plans for the coming week;
- Help prepare bids and obtain price quotes in accordance with school policy to achieve the best use of available funds;
- Ensure that school employees comply with safety laws, rules and regulations;
- Coordinate, supervise and perform grounds maintenance and field work of the district’s schools and related facilities;
- Maintain a presence in the buildings and notify the Principals when not on-site.
- Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the Principals and Superintendent may assign.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be reviewed by the Principals and Superintendent on an on-going basis. The Superintendent in consultation with the Principals will complete an annual, written evaluation.
Certification Requirements: Must be able to obtain Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
