POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sports Program Director is responsible for the development, preparation and facilitation of all sports related camp activities supporting the comprehensive day camp experience for campers ages 5-16 years old. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide exceptional customer service to contribute to positive experiences for all Y members and guests.
  2. Assist in providing an energetic, creative, inclusive, fun and safe camp environment supporting the exceptional camper experience.
  3. Plan and facilitate sports-based programs and activities including field games, team sports, playground games and teambuilding and adapt programming in coordination with scheduled camp themes.
  4. Incorporate teambuilding, conflict and resolution, leadership building activities into daily activities.
  5. Provide constant and direct supervision over campers and camp activities in support of safety and a dynamic and positive camp experience.
  6. Assist in the coordination, inventory, organization and maintenance of all necessary nature program supplies.
  7. Aid in the development and administration of an Impromptu Rain Day entertainment team of counselors and junior counselors.
  8. Assist in maintain the cleanliness and safety standards of all camp program areas.
  9. Build effective, authentic relationships with participants and / or parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage program involvement and identify potential volunteers.
  10. Model relationship-building skills and the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring in all interactions. 
  11. Communicate member concerns, community inquiries and complaints to supervisor in a timely manner.
  12. Positively represent the YMCA through professional conduct and appearance.
  13. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age of 18 years.
  2. Must have experience in camping, recreation or related field and enjoy working with youth ages 5-16 years.
  3. Must have experience in facilitating small and large group camp activities with a sports-based / teambuilding theme.
  4. Must have strong communication and problem solving skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  5. Must be capable of working under pressure and adapting to events on the move.
  6. Be willing to complete CPR / First Aid / AED certification training and all other necessary training supporting the delivery of a safe camp experience.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must have sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
