Special Education Teacher
Houlton Southside School, 2025-2026 School Year

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing high-quality, individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities across various grade levels. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Conducting formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional planning.
  • Providing direct and specially designed instruction in both resource room and inclusive settings.
  • Collaborating effectively with general education teachers, administrators, support staff, and parents/guardians to ensure student success.
  • Managing a positive, safe, and structured classroom environment.
  • Maintaining thorough and accurate records and documentation.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Maine DOE Endorsement, 282.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience with various instructional strategies and differentiated instruction techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use data to drive instructional decisions.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
