MECHANIC
 
As a Mechanic, you are responsible for maintaining and repairing all district owned vehicles to assure maximum safety and efficiency of vehicle operation.
 
Qualifications: Love what you do, maintaining and repairing all district vehicles to ensure safety of our students and staff. Must have a minimum of two years as an automotive or truck mechanic. Hold a valid bus driver operator’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days. State of Maine Inspection License for school buses or ability to obtain one within 90 days. State of Maine Inspection License for regular vehicles or ability to obtain one within 90 days. Applicants will be hired as an Assistant Mechanic until obtaining the necessary inspection license(s).

 
Reports to: Transportation Manager
 
 
Responsibilities: 
Operational Excellence
  • To perform preventative maintenance services for all vehicles
  • Maintain/repair bus engines, transmissions, brake systems etc. to the standards of safe operation
  • Perform state inspections for both district vehicles and buses  
  • Plow and sand as needed during the winter months
  • Work together with the other mechanic to balance work loads to meet completion deadlines
  • Drive the bus when required and assigned by the Transportation Manager
  • Be responsible for daily maintenance and cleanliness of the bus garage and restroom area
Organizational Approach
  • Provide for emergency repairs as required
  • Maintain adequate inventory of parts necessary for effective turnaround time on repairs
  • Maintain an organized work area for safe operation of the garage
  • Process work orders and maintains detailed records of repairs
  • Maintain all tools, supplies required in performance of job
  • All other duties as assigned

Terms of Employment: 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.  Salary and benefits established by the Board and reflected in the contract.

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board Policy GDF – Selection of Non-teaching Employees & Auxiliary Instructional Personnel/Evaluation of Support Staff.
