Job Title: Adventure Camp Counselor
Supervisor: Adventure Camp Coordinator & Camp Director
General Function: the Adventure Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting with leading, planning, preparing, general program operations, and camp counseling for Adventure Camp group. Adventure Camp is based out of Camp G. Peirce Webber and will go on three day trips each week; including educational trips, a day at Camp Jordan, and an adventure based trip. The other two days of camp the kids will participate in a variety of activities at Camp G. Peirce Webber including: leadership games, ropes course challenges, Fun Friday activities, sports, arts & crafts, and swimming. This position will be directly responsible for this group and will be a co-counselor with the adventure camp coordinator. This person will also fill in as a day camp counselor during any remaining summer camp weeks.
-Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth, and should relate well to all age levels and backgrounds of people.
-Must ensure a safe and positive experience for campers and staff.
-Ability to plan, initiate and lead small group activities & Ropes Course Challenges.
-All YMCA staff positions require certification in American Red Cross, ASHI, or American Heart Association CPR/AED-Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen Administration. All employees must obtain current certifications before the camp start date. All Trainings will be offered the week of camp training.
-Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants.
-American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Preferred
-Must be 21 years old.
-Must complete Bus Driver training through the Bangor YMCA before Adventure camp starts.
-Ensure the health and safety of the participants
-Bring Adventure Campers on trips, ensuring that all safety guidelines of trip & travel programs are being followed.
-Be a positive role model for the participants
-Maintain discipline within the group, through positive reinforcement and proper judgement.
-Supervise Campers on-site and off-site following Camp Peirce Webber and the Bangor YMCA Policy and procedures.
-Take part in all group activities with campers. Approach every activity with a positive attitude.
- Accept other duties as assigned. Fill in as day camp counselor for remaining summer weeks.

-Teach and display the four core values of the YMCA: Caring, Respect, Responsibility, and Honesty.
