The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for a Lecturer of Dental Assisting for its Dental Health program. This is an academic year (September through May), fixed-length appointment that will require on-campus presence at both the UMA Bangor Campus and the UMA Lewiston Center, as there are expected shared time and teaching responsibilities at both locations. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024. This appointment will end on May 31, 2026.

The major duties of this position are teaching and advising students in the Dental Assisting Program. Teaching assignments may include a variety of online or in-person didactic, preclinical, clinical, and laboratory teaching along with rotating supervision, and assisting the clinic coordinator with special assignments within the Dental Health Programs. UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction, and effective use of technology. Additionally, the successful candidate will be active in university services through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, community outreach, and involvement in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment.

Salary:  A typical salary for this academic year appointment is in the low 50s and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  

  • Current Dental Assisting Certification (CDA-DANB)
  • Current State of Maine Radiology License or Dental Hygiene License in good standing
  • One to two years of clinical dental assisting experience
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably in higher education
  • Ability to travel statewide

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Two or more years of clinical dental assisting experience
  • Bachelor's degree, or matriculated in a Bachelor's degree program, in a dental health field
  • Successful teaching experience in higher education teaching clinical, laboratory, and didactic courses
  • Embrace technology and have experience teaching and working in learning management systems (LMS)
  • Expanded Function Dental Assistant - Maine State License in good standing
