Little Red Caboose is looking to hire an experienced Pre-K Teacher to join our team!

We are a developmental program, providing quality, professional care for young children. Each classroom uses the Maine Early Learning and Development Standards/ Maine Infant and Toddler Learning Guidelines to guide our curriculum.

We are a community of Early Childhood Educators who are passionate, knowledgeable, and team-oriented.

This is a 40-hour per week position.

**Salary negotiable based on experience**

Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and implements classroom lesson plans, curriculum, calendar, and schedule.
  • Assists and supervises children during all activities.
  • Guides and supports children when social, emotional, learning and transitional learning opportunities arise.
  • Abides by all center/classroom procedures, e.g., completing accurate attendance records, accident/incident reports, records of medication administered, daily observations.
  • Enforces all policies of the center, e.g., late pick-up, nutrition, health, etc.
  • Uses weekly planning times efficiently, developing weekly plans, curriculum, changing out toys and replenishing materials, and working on developmental portfolios.
  • Completes planning time outline for floaters prior to planning time.
  • Ensures all classroom/outdoor equipment is in good working order before and during use, and is used properly. If repairs must be made, shares this with appropriate staff.
  • Strives to continually improve classroom environment, materials offered, and teaching techniques by considering constructive feedback and consulting resources.
  • Accepts and implements new teaching and classroom management techniques and solutions with an open and flexible mind. Proactively researches new teaching methods.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, workshop trainings, center events, and parent meetings.
  • Organizes a strategy for collecting and documenting observations for each child’s Developmental Portfolio. Conducts parent/teacher conferences.
  • Assists children with meal/snack times, preparation and clean-up. When possible, teachers should sit down at the table with children to encourage polite manners and conversation skills.
  • Works together with co-teacher and other staff to manage the classroom efficiently.
  • Builds a professional, working relationship with co-teacher and assists in training/introducing new staff members to the classroom when applicable.
  • Communicates important/appropriate information to parents on a daily basis.
  • Informs the Center Director or Assistant Director of any important issues happening in the classroom involving child development, challenging behaviors, and parent concerns.         
  • Accepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled staff is unavailable.
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks, and completes cleaning jobs as the need arises.
  • Meets all state and center requirements for the position of Teacher.
