Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

RSU 29 is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and collaborative Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to join our
preschool team. This position serves young learners ages 3 and 4 with diverse developmental, functional,
communication, and behavioral needs. The successful candidate will design and deliver individualized instruction,
manage IEPs, and foster an inclusive, structured, and nurturing environment where our youngest students can thrive.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Certification: Must hold, or be eligible for, a Maine Department of Education 282B Endorsement (Teacher
of Students with Disabilities, Birth to Age 5). (Candidates holding a K-8 282 certification willing to obtain a
conditional 282B pathway are encouraged to apply).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Specialized Instruction: Develop and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based lesson plans
aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support functional, social-emotional,
communication, and early academic skills with the school setting or with community partners.
- IEP Case Management: Complete developmental assessments, write, monitor, and implement IEPs; collect
and analyze student data to track progress, inform instruction, and complete Child Outcomes Summary
(COS) processes.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partner closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational
therapists, physical therapists, and behavior specialists to integrate related services into the student’s daily
routine.
- Staff Supervision: Direct, supervise, and support Educational Technicians (Ed Techs) assigned to the
classroom to ensure cohesive instruction and safety.
- Family Partnership: Maintain strong, transparent, and empathetic communication with families, providing
resources to support learning and development at home.
