This position supports the Y’s mission of Youth Development by assisting in the organization and implementation of high quality programming targeting school age children in the Before and After School program. As the onsite supervisor, the individual will be responsible for the management of onsite staff and that all program policies and procedures are being followed.



  1. Works closely with the Youth Development Program manager and program staff to plan and implement activities that meet YMCA objectives of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility that are developmentally appropriate for ages 5-12.
  2. Works with YD Program Manager and Youth/ Teen program coordinator to develop after-school clubs that will provide enriching, unique experiences for school aged participants.
  3. Reviews weekly activity plans to ensure that activities include the essential components.
  4. Places high importance on building relationships with the participants as an adult role model and creating a sense of belonging and achievement with the participants within the framework of the programs.
  5. Models relationship-building skills and the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring in all interactions.
  6. Cross promotes other Y programs such as Youth Sports and Camps.
  7. Demonstrates ability to interact with the youth attending the programs, their parents and/ or guardians and program staff in direct management of youth programming.
  8. Compiles program statistics that help to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs with the Program Manager and Youth Development Director.
  9. Meets periodically with individual staff for discussion of program, methods, areas of concern and plans for improvement.
  10. Serves as a resource to all staff members including planning activities, behavior management, and other related information.
  11. Assists in maintaining staff and participant files.
  12. Supports in the promotion of the program, working closely with the manager and Marketing department.
  13. Assures all staff are maintaining the upkeep and organization of the facilities used by the program both during and at the end of the program hours.
  14. Prepares with the Manager and Youth Development Director a yearly budget and works within the annual budget.
  15. Assists in organizing transportation need for the program.
  16. Maintains confidentiality of children and families enrolled in the program at all times.
  17. Attends all staff meeting, parent meetings, trainings and/ or conferences as required.
  18. Accepts other duties as deemed appropriate within the scope of this job description.


  1. Minimum age of 21.
  2. Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  3. Previous experience with school-aged children is required.
  4. Must possess and lead with enthusiasm, a sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  6. To complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
