School Mental Health Professional 
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Are you looking to work in a school system that provides structure and support for special education mental health professionals? Well this is the job for you! Our unique mental health positions allow you to provide direct service to your students and support to families and your team. Our district provides monthly supervision for all of our mental health professionals. We believe that mental health positions hold unique responsibilities and it is important to provide structures to feel successful and competent in their roles. We have a great department here in MSAD 52 and we are looking for dedicated mental health professionals to be a part of our team.

The mental health professional helps students who are eligible for IDEA services to develop and attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment by providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with social emotional disorders. 

Essential Requirements: 

  • Masters Degree in Social Work or Professional Counselor;
  • Valid State of Maine License (LCSW or LCPC);
  • Experience in providing therapy to children, families, and groups;
  • Experience in positive behavior supports or willingness to develop in this area; 
  • Ability to provide training to staff in areas of specialization; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to consult effectively and harmoniously with teachers, administrators, parents, and community providers in a variety of settings; 
  • Ability to write valid goals for therapy and initial assessments for eligibility; 
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to all aspects of the position;
  • Knowledge of age appropriate social emotional development and therapy strategies.

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Assess, screen, and evaluate students' social emotional capacity and effectively share results with parents/guardians and staff
  • Participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with IDEA regulations
  • Participate in the development of students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Develop and implement IEP goals and services for students with social emotional needs.
  • Provide consultative services for staff by sharing and demonstrating specific techniques to facilitate relevant and consistent interventions for targeted students. 
  • Maintain records and information in the prescribed confidential manner.
  • Provide direct and consultative therapeutic services
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians and the school community for the purpose of fostering individual student growth 
  • Refer students and their families and collaborate with community agencies and services
  • Maintains skills through attendance at workshops and conferences and participation in appropriate educational and professional organizations.

Qualifications:

  • LCSW (2 years experience preferred)
  • Must be licensed in accordance with Title 32, Chapter 83 of the Maine Revised Statutes, by the Maine Board of Social Worker Licensure, as a licensed clinical social worker, licensed master social worker, or a licensed master social worker conditional II, as documented by written evidence from such Board, or be licensed as a certified social worker, independent practice in accordance with Title 32, Chapter 83 of the Maine Revised Statutes, by the Maine Board of Social Worker Licensure as documented by written evidence from such Board.


Job Goal: To provide assistance/counsel to district staff, students and parents to improve quantity and quality of special and traditional public and private services. To provide administrative and clinical supervision for day treatment classrooms at Turner Elementary School and Turner Primary School.

Base Salary: $41,100.00
