Title:   Head Varsity Baseball Coach (Reports to the Director of Athletics & Activities)

 

Job Goal: To lead the MCI Baseball team by helping each participating student-athlete to learn sport-specific skills and improved self-esteem, to develop an appreciation for the values of commitment, discipline and sportsmanship. To direct a school-sponsored baseball team that exemplifies integrity, respect and discipline at all times. To work collaboratively with the softball coach and team.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 20 years of age
  2. Must submit to a Background Check and have a valid driver's license
  3. Must have (or be able to obtain) current CPR/AED and Sports First Aid certifications
  4. Within year of hire, must complete NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, NFHS Concussion in Sports, NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and NFHS Heat Illness Prevention online courses
  5. Must agree to comply with all MPA By-laws, Policies, and Coaching Code of Ethics
  6. Must have knowledge of the sport; successful coaching experience preferred

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the mission, values and vision of Maine Central Institute and the athletics department
  2. Maintains an open and consistent line of communication with the Director of Athletics & Activities
  3. Models, encourages and demands discipline and sportsmanlike behaviors at all times; establishes standards for the student-athletes to follow
  4. Teaches the skills necessary for student-athletes to achieve success
  5. Plans and implements in-season practice plans
  6. Drive MCI vehicles for practices and competitions as necessary
  7. Recommends purchases of supplies, equipment and uniforms as necessary
  8. Maintains attendance records and all required paperwork as directed by the Director of Athletics & Activities
  9. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted
  10. Establishes criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competitions in assigned sport and consistently enforces these standards in an equitable manner
  11. Immediately reports violations (or suspected violations) of team, school or MPA rules and policies to the Director of Athletics & Activities
  12. Carries out procedures for prevention, care and treatment of athletic injuries, including filing accident/injury reports with the Director of Athletics & Activities and the training staff; complies with the recommendations of the athletic training staff
  13. Communicates with parents, news media, booster groups and local youth organizations to ensure public relations and encourage support of the assigned sport
  14. Attends lectures, rules interpretations, clinics and professional development trainings to keep abreast of changes and methods that would improve assigned sport
  15. Attends all league-sponsored, sport-specific coaches meetings
  16. Maintains sport-specific inventory (equipment & uniforms); reports all equipment/uniform damage and/or loss to the Director of Athletics & Activities immediately; ensures that all inventory (equipment & uniforms) are returned to the Director of Athletics & Activities within one week of the end of the season
  17. Supports colleagues of the Maine Central Institute Athletics Department both in and out of season
  18. Assumes other such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Athletics & Activities

 

Terms of Employment: Spring Sports Season (March 18, 2024-June 15, 2024)

 

Stipend: $3,000 (Paid in 2 installments at the midpoint and end of season)

 

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Athletics & Activities
