Jefferson Village School AOS 93 - starting in the 2024 school year 

Responsibilities:

 Jefferson Village School is seeking a Physical Education and Health Teacher starting the 2024-2025 school year. This is a full time position. JVS has a student body count of 230 students in grades K-8. The K-8 PE/Health Teacher is responsible for creating learning activities that foster, promote, and develop an understanding of the relationship between healthy body function and exercise; that motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops, strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. 

 Essential Duties:

  1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness and health education utilizing curriculum designated by AOS #93 and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
  3. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, and fundamentals of body movement.
  4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  6. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  7. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  8. Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
  9. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  10. Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  11. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.

 Other Duties:

  1. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.
  2. Creates an effective learning environment.
  3. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or another appropriate administrator.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required):

Preferred candidates will possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field and meet the Maine Department of Education licensure eligibility requirements to teach health and physical education. Must be eligible for, or in possession of an appropriate Maine teaching certification,  Maine DOE Certificate 510 (PE) and 520 (Health), or obtainable, and current Maine Department of Education CHRC (fingerprinting). Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
