The Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing/Gov. Baxter School for the Deaf is seeking to fill a half-time, 200 day (school year plus summer program), Speech Language Pathologist position to work with deaf and hard of hearing children, in our Regional Program in the Brewer area to be housed in a public school.
Job Description: The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to provide children in our Regional Program with speech and language services as prescribed by each Individual Education Plan (IEP). The therapist will attend planning meetings and Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team meetings for students on their caseload. Recommendations and written reports will be provided for each IEP meeting. This position will be part of a strong regional team.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology and a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology. This person must hold a valid Speech Pathologist license as issued by the Maine State Board of Examiners on Speech Pathology and Audiology. Experience with Listening and Spoken Language and working with children with cochlear implants preferred. Fluency in American Sign Language preferred or willingness to learn required.
Applicants must have knowledge of the principles and methods of speech/language pathology including diagnostic, therapeutic and evaluative strategies. They must also have the ability to plan and conduct programs (individual and classroom-based) of speech/ language therapy.
