Director/Assistant Director of Special Services

Deer Isle, Maine

Union 76 is a public Pre-K-12 district of 500 students located in the beautiful coastal towns of Brooklin, Deer Isle, Sedgwick and Stonington Maine. We seek an organized, results-focused and innovative Special Services Leader. We are in the 2nd year of redeveloping our Push-in and RTI philosophy by empowering regular education and special education staff to think differently about student academic and behavioral intervention supports.  Progress has been made through our creation of clear system goals, improved professional development offerings and shared responsibilities centered on student success. Teacher, Admin and staff follow-through has provided an improved academic and behaviorally supportive, child-centered Pre-K-12 program union-wide. We seek a Special Services Leader or Special Educator who wants to first become an Assistant Special Services Director to lead us in the years to come!

If you’re an individual who combines administrative and instructional excellence along with a knowledge of “Best Practices” in special education/ RTI, “drive” and consensus building we urge you to apply. If you are a director or ready to become one we urge you to apply. If you want to learn how to become a Director by first becoming an Assistant Director through receiving excellent peer-coaching, professional development and leadership support we also urge you to apply!

School Union 76 is implementing a new vision and mission for integrated Special Education Services and supports amongst our three districts. We are developing a reputation as a wonderful place for student and staff learning by developing stronger, more child-centered learning environments and home-school cooperation with our parents and guardians. We are doing this by better identifying student needs and building better student supports.  Union 76 seeks an educational leader focused on what could be, by combining our Union’s efforts on both short and long-term academic, behavioral and social skill development. Our new leader will follow the excellent progress which has been made the last two years by continuing to improve student success through professional development, supervision and goal-setting.

If you are hard-working, goals-driven leader and learner, dedicated to student and staff improvement and success and want to join a Union 76 Administrative Team, with these same traits, we urge you to apply!

Qualifications:  Must hold or be eligible for Director/Assistant Director certification in Maine. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in team and consensus building. A minimum of three years teaching experience in education.

Salary range:  Negotiable, depending on experience, education and whether you fill Director or Assistant Director position.  Competitive benefits package and 220-day contract.
