Job Summary

Greater Portland Christian School seeks a passionate and dedicated Secondary English Teacher to join our Christ-centered learning community. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement engaging secondary English and literature curriculum aligned with academic standards and consistent with the school’s Christ-centered educational philosophy.
  • Teach students to analyze literature, language, and culture while helping them apply biblical principles and critical thinking to their understanding of texts and ideas.
  • Deliver engaging lessons incorporating creative writing, journalism, rhetoric, and literacy instruction to strengthen students’ communication and analytical skills.
  • Mentor students academically and spiritually, providing guidance through academic advising, tutoring, and positive classroom management.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of methods including formative assessments, projects, essays, and standardized evaluations, providing constructive feedback that promotes growth.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration on curriculum planning, interdisciplinary projects, and research-based learning opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress, attendance, and instructional activities in accordance with school and educational administration standards.
  • Support the broader mission of the school by participating in school activities, chapel, student mentorship, and community events that strengthen the GPCS community.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience teaching secondary-level English or language arts, preferably in a private or Christian school setting.
  • Commitment to the mission of Greater Portland Christian School and the ability to integrate faith and learning within the classroom.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and student assessment methods, including standardized testing.
  • Familiarity with MLA Style, proofreading techniques, and academic writing instruction.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills for engaging students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage lesson planning, classroom activities, and academic resources.
  • Experience with learning technologies and digital literacy tools used for research, writing, and classroom instruction.
