Winfield is begining the search for an Outdoor/Environmental Education Teacher to join our team for school year 2024-25 to support students and staff in our new state of the art Outdoor Classroom/Natural Playground.

We recently completed an extensive redesign of our traditional playground, removing all commercial structures and installing natural play elements and a woodland trail with the goal of reconnecting the children and adults to nature. 

The ideal candidate would have a background and/or experience in environmental education and outdoor/nature play curriculum planning. The position is full-time and can be year round by teaching in our summer arts and science camp. The 40 hours per  week are scheduled between 8:00 and 4:30 each day. 

The position requires a thoughtful, nurturing, conscientious teacher who is passionate about working with children outside.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop materials and plan activities to enhance the outdoor classroom/natural play area 
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents and co-workers
  • Communicate with parents on students' growth and progress
  • Maintain the health and safety of all students
  • Assist classroom teachers during transitions, breaks and planning times
  • Assist with the Late Care afterschool program for Toddler, Preschool and Kindergarten aged students
  • Fill-in as needed 
  • Attend meetings and staff development

Qualifications:

  • An Associates or Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience with Toddlers and Preschoolers in childcare, teaching, or other related fields
  • Experience or training in Environmental Education curriculum for early childhood
  • Ability to build rapport with children
  • Can see where help is needed and be flexible to fill in with a variety of tasks
  • Positive and patient demeanor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a supportive environment

Winfield is located in Falmouth, just north of Portland, Maine. Recently celebrating its 35th anniversary, Winfield currently serves approx. 100 students from 16 months through 6 years old. We have two Toddler classrooms for children 16 months through 3 years, and four Early Childhood classrooms, for children 3-6 years old. During the summer months, a small nature and art camp is offered to our enrolled students. Winfield offers Foreign Language, Sign Language, Art, Music, Yoga, and Environmental Education as enrichment to the Montessori Curriculum.
