The DIrector of Special Education Position

  • Year-round position (260 days, including professional development days)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement special education programs in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of records and the preparation and submission of reports to required agencies.
  • Ensure that special education services align with the Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) of students.
  • Collaborate with general education administrators to hire and supervise special education staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
  • Develop and manage the special education budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

 

Qualifications

  • Certified as an Director of Special Education (030) through the Maine Department of Education
  • Relevant experience in teaching, administration, and organizational planning
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and families
  • Professional, cooperative, and respectful of the beliefs, opinions, and confidentiality of others.
