The Gifted & Talented Teacher/Coordinator is a district position responsible for organizing, implementing and supporting differentiated instruction for gifted students.

Performance Responsibilities:
• Conducts evaluations of students to identify the top 5% or less of gifted & talented students in grades 3, 5 & 7 in core subject areas and visual & performing arts
• Collaborates with teachers to develop Differentiated Education Plans (DEPs) for identified students, documents implementation of the plan, and student progress
• Acts as a resource for teachers on differentiation by researching and providing differentiated instructional strategies and materials to teachers; consulting with teachers on how to implement strategies; observing and monitoring the implementation of differentiated practices; co-teaching or modeling differentiated instructional strategies in the classroom.
• Monitors identified G/T students progress through progress reports and report cards
• Provides specialized instruction to individuals and small groups of gifted students on a limited basis when necessary to support learning in the content areas
• Plans and organizes educational opportunities outside of the school setting to support gifted students
• Attends grade level team meetings and department level meetings as necessary
• Organizes and oversees the Scholars Diploma Program including scheduling seminars, book studies, and monitoring grades
• Consults with identified high school students each spring on scheduling for the coming year
• Coordinates testing for AP classes
• Registers interested students for AP4ALL classes and manages AP4ALL student assignments, progress and support
• Maintains records and develops a manageable record keeping system
• Develops and submits a budget for the G/T program each year to the Director of Special Services
• Participates in professional growth activities including state and local meetings and programs
• Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents regarding programming and progress
• Completes the annual state Gifted & Talented application and any other reports for appropriate state and local education agencies
• Maintains and updates the G/T Handbook on an annual basis
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services and Building Principals.
