Position Title: Speech/Language Pathologist

Location: Mitchell / Shapleigh School
Reports To: Director of Special Services, Building Principal

Position Start Date: August 2024

Required Certification: Current License

Application Deadline: Will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. 

The Kittery School District is currently seeking a 3/4-time (30 hours/week) speech language pathologist to serve students in grades 3-5 attending Mitchell and Shapleigh School.

The ideal candidate for this position will be comfortable working on a variety of teams and versatile in implementation of services. Applicants should have experience in diagnosing, assessing and treating speech, language and social communication disorders, as well as experience working closely with families and educators in a public school setting. Preferred candidates will have education and experience in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

The ideal candidate for this position will hold a license as a Speech/Language Pathologist.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of all student, family and employee related information
  • Assume case manager responsibilities for students identified with a speech and language impairment. Responsibilities include developing the student’s IEP, drafting goals, attending all IEP meetings for the student caseload, writing minutes for IEP meetings, completing eligibility forms, etc.
  • Meet regularly with special education team to share information and discuss student progress
  • Attend IEP meetings and report out on student progress
  • Provide related services to students determined eligible for speech and language services and/or identified with a speech and language impairment.
  • Assist in the screening of Pre-K and Kindergarten students registering in Kittery Schools
  • Evaluate and observe students based on IEP team requirements and team decisions
  • Perform any other appropriate duties the Special Education Director/Supervisor deems necessary 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current License as Speech and Language Pathologist
  • Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

  • There may be physical demands based on physical, emotional and cognitive needs of particular children

You must be able to pass a background test through the State of Maine Education Department.
