Job Highlights

Welcome! We are a small, rural elementary school serving around a 100 students from pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade in the Town of Sedgwick Maine. Sedgwick is a beautiful coastal community  just east of Penobscot Bay along the Eggemoggin Reach. Bordered by the towns of Brooklin, Penobscot, Blue Hill, Brooksville, and Little Deer Isle, Sedgwick is at the heart of the Blue hill Peninsula.

 

Our seasoned teachers create a positive learning environment through project based learning that focuses on science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). We prioritize social emotional learning and fostering an intimate classroom experience. We have extensive walking trails, an active garden/greenhouse program and after school activities.

 

We are looking for someone to join a dynamic team and make a positive impact on the lives of students with diverse learning needs. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythm and dance, and individual, dual or team sports.
  • Instructs students in citizenship.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with state physical education standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other record keeping activities as needed.
  • Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
  • Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other designated administrator.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Collaborate with other educators, parents, and support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

 

Requirements 

-Bachelor or Master’s degree in education

-Valid teaching license for the state of Maine

-Proven experience working with students with diverse learning needs

-Strong communication and collaboration skills

-Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
