Job Description:
Kittery Adult Education has a part-time opening for an instructor to teach high school diploma, workplace and college preparatory mathematics, small group and individual instruction . Topic areas may include pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, and/or workplace math, and test preparation skills. Minimal curriculum preparation, use of published text and digital contextualized, work-related curriculum (real world connections).
Position Type: Part-time usually 5-8 hours per week, late afternoons and Tue / Thur. evenings based on student enrolments. Additional hours may be available based on the needs of our learners and community interest.
Qualifications: Bachelors concentration in mathematics or related subject area; Maine Teaching Certification, adult education endorsement or willingness to obtain certification; knowledge of CCRS; experienced with a wide variety of technology skills to develop and deliver material; understanding of and ability to engage with non-traditional and/or adult learners; ability to teach in a small multi-level class environment; current CHRC (fingerprinting/background check); citizenship, residency or work visa required
Responsibilities:
- Provide pre assessments and math instruction using a curriculum aligned with mandated standards while adapting activities and materials to meet the goals and needs of learners
- Supports students who use of HiSET Academy online curriculum to supplement direct instruction
- Utilize Google Classroom and other class management systems to offer remote instruction
- Incorporate adult and non-traditional learning principles into instruction
- Develop and deliver contextualized ABE and HiSET lessons, resources, and learning tasks, incorporating assessment methods and academic success techniques
- Adapt instructional delivery and time management to optimize outcomes for all learners, including those with individualized education plans (IEP)
- Create a learner-centered, positive teaching and class environment that may include in class and remote students
- Work collaboratively with staff to support learner progress and completion
- Maintain, complete and submit student information in a timely fashion
- Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development activities
