Description

Falmouth Schools is seeking a candidate to lead the String Ensemble.  This is a stipend B position for the 2023-2024 school year only and will have both middle and high school students in the ensemble.

 

The string ensemble will focus on rehearsal and performance of standard string ensemble literature geared to the ability of the group.  Musical concepts and artistic expression will be emphasized.   The ensemble will meet as a co-curricular ensemble two mornings per week, before the start of the school day.  The string ensemble will have public performances. 

 

For students in high school there will be periodic performance assessments in order for students to receive a 0.5 Fine Arts credit towards graduation. Strings ensemble may be taken more than once, however only 0.5 credits will be allocated to the required 1 credit of Fine Arts graduation requirement.  The remaining 0.5 credit required for Fine Arts for graduation must be attained through another Fine Arts course. 

 

Preference given to applicants with a certification in music.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:  

 
  • Choose, order, and prepare scores.  

  • Direct rehearsals and performances with students. 
    • 2 rehearsals weekly 7-7:55 am & a minimum of 2 concerts annually
  • Plan and organize concerts and other string ensemble performances in collaboration with other District Music teachers.  

  • Work with District administrators and District Music teachers to promote and send out sign ups for the String Ensemble before the school year begins. 

  • Communicate with students and parents/guardians with initial information on the strings program and all follow up information for rehearsals, concerts, concert attire, snow dates, and protocols. 

  • Set up and give feedback on performance assessment and sight reading to high school students enrolled in the course. 

  • Organize equipment as needed (stands & chairs) for rehearsals and performances. 

  • Prepare recognitions and awards for students. 

  • Communicate information regarding the district and state music festivals to parents and students.  

  • Discuss the requirements and option of a fine arts endorsement on FHS diploma, and help mentor students for the requirements to be met.

Additional:
Stipend for this schedule B position will be $3,930.48. 
Anticipated hours for position (80 - 100 hrs).
