Position: Camp Counselor, Waynflete Summer

Locations: Waynflete Spring Street and Fore River Campus - Portland, ME

  • 360 Spring Street | Portland, ME (main campus)
  • 283 Osgood Street | Portland, ME (sports fields & nature classroom)
     

Mission: Waynflete’s mission is to engage the imagination and intellect of our students, to guide them toward self-governance and self-knowledge, and to encourage their responsible and caring participation in the world. Our aim is to provide a program that combines security with challenge, playful exploration with rigorous expectation, and range of experience with depth of inquiry.
 

Compensation: $15 - $18 / hour based on experience.

Dates of Employment: We ask that counselors commit to 3 to 6 weeks of camp.

  • Pre-Camp Training Dates: TBD, May/June 2024
  • Camp Weeks: 6/10, 6/17, 6/24, 7/1, 7/8, 7/15, 7/22
  • Camp is closed on 6/19, Juneteenth & 7/4, Independence Day 
     

Camp Hours:

  • Camp Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday
  • Staff Hours: approximately 8:00am to 4:00pm daily
     

Contact Information: 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with camp leaders to execute all daily camp activities and tasks.
  • Assist with activities such as: games, songs, program projects and more.
  • Assist lessons with enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism.
  • Organize and supervise campers throughout the camp day.
  • Complete morning prep and end of day clean up responsibilities.
  • Communicate camper incidents in a timely manner to the camp leaders.
  • Participate in daily meetings with camp leaders to communicate any issues or concerns that could impact our campers’ experience or program quality.
  • Set a good example in respect and care for the community and campus.
  • Create group unity by building a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Keep the safety of campers in mind at all times. 
  • Attend all required staff meetings and pre-season training sessions.
     

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 16 - 18 years of age
  • Experience working with children (ages 4-13) as a Camp Counselor, CIT, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous experience with diverse populations
  • Describe yourself as kind, friendly, patient, flexible, creative and energetic!
