Athletics Specialist at Camp Alsing - Standish, ME

Camp Alsing is an overnight summer camp in Maine for young people, ages 10-22, who are looking for a traditional summer camp experience but need support with executive functioning, social communication, and anxiety management. Our campers may have diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD, anxiety, or learning disabilities. We help campers expand their boundaries in a traditional camp environment.

Position Summary

Our staff are mentors and role models for campers.  The Athletics Specialist is responsible for the planning and delivery of athletic activities for campers ranging in age from 10-17. The Athletics Specialist helps foster an environment where campers are encouraged to try new things and expand their comfort zones in a safe and fun way.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Program Director with planning the daily activities schedule, incorporating a variety of traditional and creative athletic activities.
  • Uses training provided by Camp Alsing to help campers grow in their social cognition, executive functioning, and anxiety management abilities
  • Set up and lead athletic activities during scheduled activity periods.
  • Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed
  • Support young adult campers in the Leadership and Independent Living Skills program, ages 18-22, as they lead select activities.
  • Support counselors with supervision and management of campers as needed, during non-activity periods
  • Live on-site from the orientation through the end of camp. Counselors live in a college dorm setting with campers and co-counselors.
  • Participation in on-site staff training prior to arrival of campers.
  • Other duties, as assigned

Experience

  • Experience working with school-age children and teenagers (required)
  • Experience working with children with special needs (preferred)

Room and Board provided, PTO, $2000 stipend

Dates: June 20 – July 30, 2023  Location: Standish, Maine
