About the School:
Westbrook High School is proud to serve the City of Westbrook. Our learners represent 27 different countries of origin and speak over 15 languages other than English. The needs of individual learners are recognized and met through the work of our exemplary staff and diverse programming. We offer a wide range of extracurricular clubs, activities and athletic teams. We collaborate in teams at the freshmen and sophomore levels to provide a social emotional curriculum, assess student data, implement interventions, and talk about best practice. Westbrook High School offers a STEM endorsed diploma and a Visual & Performing Arts endorsed diploma. We also offer programming to prepare students for Westbrook Regional Technical Center and PATHS. Finally, we are proud to prepare students for the Seal of Bi-Literacy through our Multilingual Learner programming and our Modern and Classical Language courses. Westbrook High School has become a springboard for students to join the military, enter the workforce or go onto college through relevant and rigorous coursework and the guidance of our Aspirations Counselor and Student Services Department.
Job Goal & Function:
As the Westbrook High School Nurse, your mission is to enhance the educational process by safeguarding and improving the health of our students. You will focus on preventive care, early detection of health issues, and fostering a culture of well-being within our school community.
Qualifications:
- Current license in good standing to practice professional nursing in Maine
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a school setting or relevant fields such as pediatric, community health, emergency care, or mental health nursing
- Certification (524) as required by Maine Dept. of Education and/or current RN, LPN licensure, or a related bachelor's degree
- Ability to lead as Department Head ensuring consistency in professional development and practice
- Evidence of ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, remain calm in stressful situations, and communicate effectively
Performance Responsibilities:
- Conduct health assessments, including screenings for vision, hearing, and growth
- Develop and implement health plans, providing referrals and follow-up care as needed
- Maintain health records and participate in the development of individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Manage school health protocols for students with chronic conditions, including medication administration
- Assist in crisis intervention and promote measures for communicable disease control
- Serve as a resource on health issues for students, parents, teachers, and administrators
- Coordination of school health activities and act as a liaison between home and school
- Maintain compliance with health procedures, standing orders, and medication policies
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent & Building Administration according to the district’s system of Professional Growth and Evaluation.
Mental and Physical Demands:
This role requires problem-solving, evaluating, planning, and physical tasks such as sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and keyboarding.
