Mid-Coast School of Technology is seeking a part time 50% Pre-Engineering Trades Instructor for the 2020-21 school year. The applicant must possess a minimum of six (6) years in the trades OR a combination of engineering education and work experience. Deadline to Apply: April 30, 2020


The teacher will:

  1. Possess and maintain appropriate State of Maine certification.
  2. Meet eligibility requirements specified in Maine Department of Education Chapter 115, part II – Requirements for Specific Certificates and Endorsements. Endorsement: 928
  3. Have appropriate Maine License, if required.
  4. Have a practical knowledge of industrial, technical and first-hand knowledge of career and technical education and CTE standards.
  5. Demonstrate excellent people and communication skills.
  6. Exhibit an ability to work in a team environment offering problem-solving strategies, as well as taking direction from others.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  2. Develop lesson plans
  3. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  4. Prepare classroom and lab for learning activities
  5. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  6. Identify and select different instructional methods and resources to meet students’ varying needs
  7. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  8. Use relevant technology to support instruction and to develop and maintain appropriate documentation of student records, etc.
  9. Stay informed of new developments, techniques and industry standards in the teacher’s area of specialization
  10. Observe, evaluate and assess student’s performance and development
  11. Assign and grade student work
  12. Provide appropriate feedback on student work
  13. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  14. Follow IEP, make accommodations as indicated and attend student special education planning meetings
  15. Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  16. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, school policies and school regulations
  17. Prepare required reports on students and activities
  18. Assist in the follow-up of students to determine college and other post-secondary placement
  19. Set a good example for students in such areas as personal appearance, neatness, propriety of dress for industry and use of safety equipment
  20. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  21. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  22. Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
  23. Manage concurrent and dual enrollment opportunities for students
  24. Support extracurricular activities such as social activities, clubs and student organizations
  25. Participate in department and school meetings, professional development activities and parent meetings
  26. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  27. Keep updated with developments in teaching methods as well as resources and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  28. Maintain shop equipment in accordance with appropriate maintenance procedures as well as in compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety standards
  29. Prepare an annual budget for the program
  30. Work with a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) and attend annual Tech group meetings
  31. Participate in the Educator Effectiveness system including self-assessment, feedback from supervisors and peers, and focused professional development
  32. Carry out a continued program of further education and self-improvement with assistance from the Professional Learning Communities Support System plan (PLCSS) and school administration
  33. Perform all other related duties as assigned or requested by the Director.
