School Union #93

Join the dedicated administrative team at School Union #93, serving the beautiful coastal communities of Blue Hill, Brooksville, Castine, Penobscot, and Surry, Maine. Each town has a single PK-8 school, with a total enrollment of approximately 560 students. High school students attend area public and private schools, including Ellsworth High School, Bucksport High School, and George Stevens Academy.

We are seeking a Director of Special Services who is passionate about supporting students with special needs and committed to excellence in special education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate elementary and secondary special education programs.
  • Provide leadership in developing new programs and enhancing existing ones.
  • Monitor and refine procedures for identifying and supporting students with special needs.
  • Manage and report on IDEA grant-funded projects.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal special education laws and regulations.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and support special education teachers and educational technicians.
  • Collaborate with IEP Teams to assess and improve special education programs, curriculum, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and legally required documentation.
  • Develop and oversee the special education budget.
  • Support and monitor Section 504 services for eligible students.

Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Special Education Administration.
    • Maine 030 certification (or eligibility) as a special education administrator.
    • Strong knowledge of federal and Maine special education laws, regulations, and procedures.
    • Experience with Section 504 law, regulations, and compliance.

 

  • Knowledge in developing and monitoring Special Education Federal Grant funding.

 

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a special educator or school administrator.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with staff, students, and families.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and technology skills.
