The Assistant Director Position
- Year-round position (260 days, including professional development days)

Primary Responsibilities
- Support the Director of Special Education in managing district-wide special education programs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state (including Maine DOE), and federal (IDEA, Section 504) regulations.
- Oversee implementation of IEPs, FAPE, and LRE requirements across schools.
- Assist with curriculum, instruction, and assessment efforts aligned with special education and general education.
- Assist in professional development for special education staff, focusing on compliance and best practices.
- Serve as a liaison with families, agencies, and community partners to promote inclusive services.
- Collaborate on staffing, budgeting, and resource planning for special education programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Education from an accredited institution; Master’s in Special Education or Administration preferred.
- State Certification as an Assistant Director of Special Services or equivalent. Maine DOE 035 or 030
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
- Professional, cooperative, and respectful of the beliefs, opinions, and confidentiality of others.
- Relevant experience in teaching, administration, and organizational planning
