The University of Maine System is accepting applications for a Micro-Credential Staff and Learning Designer. This position works with the micro-credential development teams and staff to create micro-credential courses in our Learning Management System (Brightspace) or other learning environments and complete Learning Designer tasks and duties. They will work with micro-credential staff to support the goals of the UMS Micro-credential (M-C) Initiative including tasks related to scaling, marketing/outreach, technology, infrastructure, sustainable solutions, and other tasks as requested.

This position works remotely within the state of Maine.

The annual salary range is between $52,000 and $62,000 and commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award and offers a wellness program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Required: 

  • College degree at the bachelor’s level or above in instructional design/instructional technology and three or more years of experience designing courses. A degree in a relevant field and four years of instructional design experience will be considered.
  • Experience working in higher education. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in instructional design principles, e-commerce design, and optimal practices, as well as the ability to apply these principles and practices to create effective learning experiences for a variety of learner personas.
  • Strong technological skills and experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS); Quick learner with enthusiasm for emerging technologies.
  • Coordinating/organizing/managing the work of teams and subject matter experts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with creative design (e.g., video recording and editing software) and e-learning tools.
  • Knowledge and application of the principles of adult learning and competency-based education delivery. Experience applying common learning theories and models in course design for learning.
  • Knowledge of section 508 and applicable ADA guidelines and optimal practices of universal design for learning. 
  • Create and nurture an environment that emphasizes teamwork, continuous improvement, and a passion for providing service. 
  • Can work independently within established processes/policies and tools.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and professionalism, including active listening skills, respectful communication, email communication, reports, updates, Zoom meetings, etc. 
  • Familiarity with micro-credentials and their benefits to various learners; keen interest in the UMS micro-credential approach and growth of the UMS Micro-credential Initiative.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience working with diverse teams; collegial.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic, and rapidly changing team environment under tight deadlines, with creativity and a solutions focus.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management, organizational, and reporting skills. 
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to solve problems.

Preferred:

  • Master’s or above in instructional design, instructional technology, or education, or doctoral degree with coursework in instructional design, instructional technology, or education.
  • Demonstrated advanced training in instructional design and e-learning.  
  • Four or more years of experience in a higher education environment.
  • Experience designing for and supporting faculty/staff and other subject matter experts in the Brightspace LMS platform; can create LMS course shells and courses. 
  • Experience with the following platforms: LMS/Brightspace, Google Suite, Zoom web-conferencing, Kaltura, Adobe Creative Suite, and WordPress.
  • Knowledge of WordPress/Website development and upkeep.
  • Experience working in a remote work setting.
  • Some experience delivering training for faculty/staff and giving presentations. 
  • Experience designing courses for delivery in an asynchronous format with interactive technology.
