TCIS SITE COORDINATOR

POSITION OVERVIEW

Maine Indian Education seeks a dedicated and experienced TCIS Site Coordinator to join our educational team at Penobscot Indian Island Elementary School. This vital role implements the Tribal Communities in Schools (TCIS) culturally grounded student support model from the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) as a licensed Partner of Communities In Schools National (CIS). The ideal candidate will serve as a crucial link between the school, families, and tribal community while ensuring compliance with Maine Indian Education policies and advocating for comprehensive student support services.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement integrated student support services using the TCIS model in collaboration with the Superintendent and Principal
  • Actively assess student needs and connect them with appropriate support services
  • Manage partnerships with service providers and community organizations
  • Serve as a vital link between the school, families, and the tribal community
  • Build and maintain positive relationships in accordance with Maine Indian Education guidelines
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams and contribute insights to enhance student support services
  • Input data into the CIS Data Management system and maintain accurate documentation
  • Ensure compliance with Maine Indian Education requirements and provide regular updates to leadership
  • Collaborate with school staff to ensure integrated student support complements curriculum and operations
  • Engage in continuous evaluation of support services and provide constructive input for improvement
  • Conduct home visits and community outreach as needed
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities through NIEA
  • Manage caseloads and provide ongoing support to at-risk students
  • Coordinate volunteer training and community engagement activities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, public administration, or related field required; master’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with schools, especially with Native American populations and/or at-risk students
  • Experience in program implementation and administration, volunteer training, and case management
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to establish working relationships with school administrators, personnel, students, parents, families, and the public
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license required for travel, home visits, and field trips
  • Preference given to individuals of Native American origin and/or with personal lived expertise in Native American culture
  • Preference given for Native American applicants

  • Ability to read, understand, and implement education policies and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Physical ability to perform necessary job functions, including lifting to 25 pounds
  • Ability to concentrate on details when there are distractions and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong collaboration and team-building skills with diverse populations
  • Proficiency with CISDM (Communities In Schools Data Management system) and Microsoft 365 (Teams)
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of tribal community dynamics

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Office/School/Community environment with occasional travel
  • Ability to perform all necessary upper and lower body functions
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Travel requirements include training, home visits, and field trips
  • Standard school and office setting with community outreach responsibilities
  • Valid driver's license required for position duties
