Job Highlights

Welcome! We are a small, rural elementary school serving around 70 students from pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade in the Town of Sedgwick, Maine. Sedgwick is a beautiful coastal community just east of Penobscot Bay along the Eggemoggin Reach. Bordered by the towns of Brooklin, Penobscot, Blue Hill, Brooksville, and Little Deer Isle, Sedgwick is at the heart of the Blue Hill Peninsula.

We are looking for someone to join a dynamic team and make a positive impact on the lives of students with diverse learning needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a receptionist for the school, which includes answering the telephone
    greeting guests and monitoring all visitors in the school.
  • Supervise the use of school equipment, including the telephone and copying machines.
  • Assist with the ordering, distribution, and inventory of school supplies.
  • Perform all secretarial and clerical duties as directed by the principal.
  • Collect interoffice mail, sort, and distribute all school mail.
  • Supervise students who are waiting to see other school personnel.
  • File materials in a manner that enables others to locate information.
  • Keep financial and budget records for school accounts as directed by the principal.
  • Maintain a calendar of school events and records for public use of the building.
  • Assemble and copy for distribution the bi-weekly or monthly school newsletter.
  • Assist in the maintenance and routing of student records and other student data, including the Department of Education MEDMS database.
  • After the required training, supervise the storage and use of student medication.
  • Assist with student attendance, including maintenance of records.
  • Observe the strict confidentiality of all school, student, and employee information.
  • Organize and maintain the school office in an orderly fashion.
  • Schedule substitutes, student screenings, parent conferences, and other events/people as directed by the principal.
  • Supervise classes and cover duties in emergency situations.
  • In the absence of the school nurse and after appropriate training, administer medications for students.
  • Perform other tasks as may reasonably be directed by the principal.

 Requirements 

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • An associate's or bachelor's degree in office procedures is desirable.
  • Office skills, including keyboarding, filing, and computer skills. 
  • Work with confidential information.
  • Create positive public relations with the community.
  • Work effectively with a diverse population of staff and students.
  • Maintain a professional, cheerful, and flexible attitude.
  • Criminal History Record Check (CHRC).
