Summary: Coordinate all Pathfinders functions and trips.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• To work with the principal in the preparation of an annual budget.
• To purchase necessary equipment and supplies for expeditions and training.
• To supervise the maintenance of Pathfinder vehicles and equipment.
• To maintain accurate logs of vehicles and equipment use.
• To recommend staff members to the principal to serve as trip leaders and
assistant trip leaders for expeditions.
• To supervise trip leaders and organize in-service training for new leaders
and assistant trip leaders.
• To recruit staff members to serve as new assistant trip leaders.
• To assist trip leaders in organizing and planning expeditions.
• To identify and select at-risk students whose needs can be met by the
Pathfinders program.
• To promote and publicize Pathfinder activities and the Pathfinder program in
general.
• To explore new ways of expanding the Pathfinder program to serve more
students.
• To track the academic progress of students involved in Pathfinders for a
period of two years after they have the program to help assess its
effectiveness.
• To preside over and guide an executive board in establishing a mission
statement, operational procedures, and goals for the Pathfinder program.
• To apply and obtain grants, gifts, and donation that will support the
Pathfinder program.
• To secure charters and insurance for the program with Boy Scouts of
America.
• To insure that all BEMS students, leaders and necessary administrators are
properly registered as scouts or scout leaders.
• To assign all use of Pathfinders vehicles and equipment for other BEMS and
BEHS programs.
• To attend evening parent meetings scheduled by trip leaders for individual
trips.
• To insure and maintain safety for all participants through the instruction in
proper wilderness training.
• To insure that all students and staff are protected from sexual harassment
through training and proper supervision.
• To fulfill other related responsibilities of this role as determined by the
Superintendent of Schools and BEMS Principal.


Supervisory Responsibilities: Pathfinder Trip Leader and Assistant


Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must

Education and/or Experience: Maine Teacher Certification. Ability to work
courteously with adults and children and to promote positive public relations at all
times.


Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write
routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before students,
parents, and staff.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts,
interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out
instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with
problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to speak clearly and concisely in both oral and
written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district
requirements and Board of Education policies.
