The Kittery School Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered School Nurse to provide specialized medical care for a student during Extended School Year (ESY) Monday - Thursday, July 7 to August 7, approx. 8:00am - 12:00pm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of the student throughout programming, enabling them to fully participate in their educational experience.
The ideal candidate for this position will hold a license as a RN.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide continuous, individualized medical care and support for the student.
- Monitor and manage the student’s health needs, including hydration, medication administration, seizure activity monitoring and reporting, and emergency response as needed.
- Collaborate with school staff, healthcare providers, and the student’s family to ensure the student's medical care plan is followed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records, documenting daily care and any health concerns.
- Educate school staff on best practices for managing the student’s medical needs when appropriate.
- Assist the student in transitioning between classes and participating in school activities, ensuring their medical needs are met at all times.
- Perform any other appropriate duties the Special Education Director/Supervisor deems necessary
- Assist with accessibility, including helping the student navigate the school environment.
- Support toileting needs, maintaining privacy and dignity
- Aid in feeding, following any specific assistive technology, dietary requirements or restriction.
- Perform any other appropriate duties the Special Education Director/Supervisor deems necessary
Minimum Qualifications
- Current RN license
- Experience working with students with specialized medical needs.
- CPR and First Aid certification (Pediatric preferred).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with specialized healthcare needs in an educational environment.
- Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check
