About the Madawaska School Department
The Madawaska School Department serves students in grades PreK-12 in Madawaska, ME, the most Northeastern town in the United States, and one of the stops on the SCMA Four Corners Tour.  The district has two (2) schools, the Madawaska Elementary School (PreK-6) a 2000-01 Nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School, and Madawaska Middle/High School (7-12), the 16th Ranked High School in Maine, according to the US News and World Report

Job Summary:

Inspire a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking in students while maintaining high academic expectations and fostering a positive, inclusive classroom.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid Maine Department of Education certification (Endorsement 100: English 6-12) or be eligible for conditional or provisional certification.
  • Additional Maine Department of Education certification in Fine Arts beneficial, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a closely related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Maine Learning Results, Common Core Standards for English Language Arts, and current best practices in secondary education.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet a variety of learning needs.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Experience integrating technology into instruction to enhance learning.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with curriculum development, literacy interventions, or Ap/advanced English courses.
  • Familiarity with project-based learning, interdisciplinary approaches, and student-centered instruction.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction aligned to state and district standards.
  • Design meaningful assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Create a positive and supportive classroom culture that promotes academic achievement and respect.
  • Integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills across the curriculum.
  • Use data to inform instruction and participate in collaborative professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues to support student learning and growth.
  • Participate in school events, professional development, and other duties as assigned.

As determined by the MSD Performance Evaluation and Professional Growth (PEPG) System.
