Gifted & Talented Teacher

Job Goal

  • To identify and challenge gifted learners districtwide, ensuring their intellectual and social-emotional growth through advanced, differentiated instruction.
  • To collaborate with staff and leadership to maximize student achievement and program equity.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction: Design and deliver high-interest, inquiry-based curriculum that provides depth and complexity beyond the standard classroom.
  • Collaboration: Partner with GATE colleagues and classroom teachers to differentiate core instruction and provide specialized support for high-ability students.
  • Identification: Participate in districtwide screening and assessment using multiple data points.
  • Consultation: Advise building leaders and staff on best practices for gifted pedagogy and the needs of "twice-exceptional" (2e) learners.
  • Communication: Maintain active partnerships with parents regarding student progress and enrichment opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Master’s in Gifted Education preferred).
  • Certification: Maine State Teaching Certificate with (or eligibility for) the 690 Endorsement.
  • Experience: Successful classroom teaching experience; background in gifted education preferred.
  • Skills: Expertise in curriculum compacting and differentiation; strong organizational skills for a multi-school itinerant role.
  • Personal Attributes: High level of creativity, flexibility, and a passion for advocating for high-potential learners.

Reports To

  • Building Principals and/or Director of Curriculum.
Working Schedule
  • School Year Only 180 days
  • This is a full time position.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel between schools or district buildings required 

Reports To: Building Principal(s) and Assistant Superintendent

 

Terms of Employment:  As determined annually by the District.

 

Evaluation: Building Principal

 

FLSA Status: Exempt
